Get to know Frankie Ballard!

May 17, 2017
Frankie Ballard grew up in Michigan where his father played him one classic album over and over again: Marty Robbins' Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, which featured the hit "El Paso." Today Ballard, a quick-draw guitarist and rough-hewn singer, has cut his own metaphorical gunfighter album, leaving Nashville for a gritty El Paso studio to record the followup to his 2014 breakout Sunshine & Whiskey.

Ballard had scored three consecutive No. 1 singles off Sunshine & Whiskey, but for him, it was imperative that he leave behind the safety of Nashville for the wilds of the Mexico border to create a cohesive collection of songs, not just an album of singles. "There is something you have to fundamentally understand about me: my dream goes the whole I want more people hearing my music," Ballard says. "I'm going to try to make some better music, and if it's not better than what I did before, there's no reason for it to come out. I don't want to maintain altitude -- I want to fly."

And now, Ballard will be your host at WBEE's spring Guitars & Stars on Wednesday, May 31, at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack! The show will feature Scotty McCreery, along with Michael Ray, Parmalee, William Michael Morgan, Runaway June & Carly Pearce!
